Discover the origins and work of the Women’s Voluntary Service, a fantastic organisation of which one in ten British women were members during the Second World War. Hear about how I found and used the sources for my book.

In this talk I will show you how I used local history to write fiction. Perhaps your group will be inspired to walk in the countryside, to learn more about the Heart of Hertfordshire and perhaps even imagine storied themselves?

Joyce Grenfell was a consummate actress, remembered fondly for her monologues. In this talk, I will speak about her life, including her years as a Second World War entertainer for the troops in ENSA, and will perform a selection of her monologues with costume.

Previous speaking engagements include:

* Hertfordshire Book Festival May 2022 and May 2023

* Welwyn Garden City Library November 2022 and May 2023

* Harpenden Library May 2023

* Wheathampstead Historical Society July 2022

* Hertfordshire Association of Local History Symposium November 2022

* Many groups of the Women's Insitute Hertfordshire Federation
